SmartBoards are interactive boards that were first introduced as SMART Board interactive whiteboard in 1991. They are often used in the classrooms, lecture halls, meetings, and presentations all over the world. It is manufactured by SMART Technologies. Users are able to control the operation from the interactive board display itself, which basically functions as a monitor and a mouse. The user themselves can control applications using touch-control directly on the display. There are various things you can do on a Smartboard as well.
Smartboards are used for many things such as podcasting, learning geography, teaching computer skills, and doing other activities. Some teachers use smartboard to teach specific content areas. According to the article found in eHow. (link provided above), for instance, language arts activities on smartboard, students are able to write a Haiku or using a graphic organizer simply by using the keyboard to type or add adjectives or words that the student would want to add. There are also downloadable activities and lessons teachers can use for their smartboards in their classrooms.
When the smartboards in the classrooms are working and ready for students to use, it will be a lot easier for the students to do their presentations and other activities with the teacher. I am hoping that the smartboards are ready to be used before I graduate. =)
